Hi, my name is Carmen McCord. I am a licensed clinical social worker who understands the struggles of everyday life. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees at California State University Fullerton. I have over a decade of experience working with individuals in an inpatient setting who have a variety of mental health and substance abuse issues. I would like the opportunity to assist and provide you with the necessary tools to guide you through your current life stressors. Let's get to work!
My Approach
I believe that creating an environment where a client feels safe, comfortable, and open is key to a successful therapeutic relationship. I feel that building rapport and trust is the foundation to reveal profound insights, strengthen resilience, and drive meaningful, lasting transformation. My aim is to make my sessions client-centered, by starting where the client is currently and provide the support needed.
My Focus
My focus is to provide as much support as needed to help the client reach their goals of therapy. I believe that clients deal with overwhelming life issues and sometimes it seems easier to suppress these feelings. I feel that together we can successfully overcome these obstacles.
My Communication
Style
My communication style is open, honest, and nonjudgemental. I want to foster trust and understanding by encouraging transparency and active listening. This approach involves expressing thoughts and feelings clearly and truthfully, without hiding or sugarcoating important details.
My Journey
I've always wanted to be in a position to help others. By becoming a licensed clinical social worker, I am in a field where I am able to do that. In my 13 years working in an inpatient setting, I have been able to assist clients from all walks of life. I have been humbled by their life experiences and it has taught me empathy, understanding, and has fostered me to continue my journey in this field.
